These are the series of images that I drew up using reference photographs that I had taken at the location. The first image i rendered in continuous line to try capture the destressed lines in the actuall environment e.g falling plaster boards, leftover cardboard boxes, and buckled metal shutters. I think in this image i have documented well - without the use of light and tone - the effect that time has had on this location.
In this image I was documenting the old technology that was left behind in the building such as an old 'box' television. The television had graffiti on its screen and I saw this another part of the story to this location as this i feel was another aspect of time taking its tole on this place. I decided to render the image in charcoal to mimic the grubby condition of the television and its surroundings.
In this image I was looking up at at a part glass section of the ceiling/roofing and noticed that this view would cinematically make for an interesting composition, and again would tell the story of this place very well. I felt that using fine liner to document this image would accurately represent the cracks in the panes of glass and the lack of tone in the image would best represent the light coming in from the window. I tried to think cinematically when producing this image, how looking up through a skylight may look through a camera - you would have some element of glare from the sunlight coming directly into the lens of the camera, and this is what I tried to replicate in this image.
In this image I was trying to replicate the light and tone that I encountered whilst walking down a dark corridor in the building that had doors to the side where light was streaming into the dark corridor, it made for a very atmospheric composition. I also tried to focus more on the light and tone aspect of environmental storytelling in this image because there wasn't much detail to capture in this corridor and so I had the opportunity to do so.
For this composition i chose to focus on the old industrial sewing machine as a focal point for the image, thinking cinematically cropping the image and putting more emphasis on the foreground than the background but still picking out certain details in the background that are part of the story, i.e they should still be taken into account.
